Assurance and credibility
The main goal certification can serve is quality assurance and credibility. Certification is available for a number of frameworks, for some of them certification is even required.
It gives an indication that your company is compliant with this framework, but it does not say anything about the impact you have or the impact of the initiative itself.
In other words: certification in itself does not create shared value.
Sometimes the certifiable initiative has commercial interests related to the certification. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but something of which you should be aware. Moreover, it can lead to debate about the credibility.
